ABOUT:

As an African artist, my work is deeply inspired by the rich cultural heritage of my continent. I draw upon traditional motifs, patterns, and symbolism to create pieces that speak to the beauty and complexity of African culture. At the same time, I'm also influenced by the contemporary art scene in Kenya and around the world, and I strive to create work that is both rooted in tradition and relevant to the present moment.

ARTIST Q&A:

Q: How long have you been an artist?

A: I've been an artist professionally for five years, but I've been practicing for pretty much my whole life.

Q: What is your preferred medium or tool of preference?

A: As a digital collage artist, my preferred medium is collage and photography, and my tool of choice would likely be digital software programs that allow me to create and manipulate images. This could include programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Q: What or who (if anyone) inspires your artwork?

A: As an African artist, my work is deeply inspired by the rich cultural heritage of my continent.

Q: Do you have a favorite artist, poet, book or quote?

A: I draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, but one artist who has always stood out to me is Laolu Sebanjo. His paintings are so vivid and emotional, and I'm inspired by his use of color and his exploration of identity and personal/communal struggles. In terms of poetry, I'm a big fan of Maya Angelou. Her words are so powerful and moving, and I appreciate how she writes about issues of race, gender, and inequality with such grace and insight. As for books, I've always loved Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart. It is a classic that has deeply influenced me, both in terms of its portrayal of Igbo culture and its critique of colonialism. When it comes to quotes, one that resonates with me is from Vincent van Gogh: 'I am seeking, I am striving, I am in it with all my heart.' This reminds me always to stay committed to my art and to keep pushing myself to grow and evolve as an artist.

Q: Any additional information you would like people to know about you?

A: I would like people to know that my art is a reflection of my experiences, emotions, and perceptions of the world around me. Each piece I create is a unique expression of my inner self, and I hope it can evoke a similar emotional response in the viewer. I am constantly experimenting with new techniques and mediums to push the boundaries of my creativity and challenge myself as an artist, and I am always seeking to learn and grow. I believe that art has the power to connect people and bridge cultural divides, and I hope that my work can contribute to this positive impact.
